Turkey. Early to Mid-19th century

Silk velvet bindali with gold embroidery--dival work. 61½"across the shoulders;  52½"long. This dress has much more gracefully designed embroidery patterning than later 19th century Turkish dresses. The embroidery is in very good condition, but much of the velvet pile has disappeared from the surface.
