MARLA MALLETT: TEXTILES

Kurdish Hakkari Kilim
SE Anatolia. Late 19th or early 20th century.
Wool and cotton. 5'7"x 7'5." Slit tapestry.  This kilim, which comes closest to a "squarish" proportion of any among old Anatolian kilims, was probably made in the town of Hakkari.  It was woven in one piece, rather than the more common two parts, and it needs a little coaxing to lie absolutely flat. It is a durable piece, in good condition. The very active design demands a large space with plenty of room around it.   $1300
