Veramin Salt Bag
North Persia.  Late 19th or early 20th century.

Wool and cotton.  21"x 25." Intricate weft-substitution weave, with a band of knotted pile along the bottom edge. The neck of the bag is nicely finished with complimentary-weft weave and twining. A reversal of the colors in the red/blue bands makes for an interesting difference between front and back. Reds, blues and green wool in dark, close tonalities contrast with small stark white cotton bands.  $950
