Kasuri Futonji
Japan. Meiji period, early 20th century.

Cotton, with indigo-dyed double ikat and e-gasuri.  Made in three separate panels and joined to make a futon cover 37"x 75½." A delicately drawn bird motif alternates with bold crossed bars.  This dramatic piece of textile folk art is in good condition, but like so many of these early country folk art textiles, this example has been patched with fragments from another cover to prolong its useful live. These inserts appear at the two ends.  $425
