Kasuri Futonji
Japan. Meiji period, late 19th century.

Cotton, with indigo-dyed double ikat and e-gasuri.  Made in three separate panels and joined to make a cover 37½"x 76." A delicately drawn crane motif alternates with bold blocks.  This lovely old  piece of textile folk art has, like many of these early country folk art textiles, been much patched to prolong its useful life.  In spite of this, it has a grace and real dignity.  $425
