Kyrgyz Tent Hanging
Late 19th century. Kyrgyzstan.

Wool brocading on a cotton, warp-faced ground. 6'2"x 4'11." This decorative hanging was made in one long strip, like a tent band, then was cut and seven panels sewed together. The top and bottom cut edges are bound, and braided red wool mesh fringe decorates the side edges. The inlaid brocading is dark blue, brown, black, red and yellow on a white cotton warp-faced ground. This bold, dramatic piece is in excellent condition.   $1250
