MARLA MALLETT: TEXTILES

Kurdish Kilim
Sauj Bulaq area, West Persia.
Early 20th century.  3'11"x 8'4."
Wedge weave tapestry. The side borders are slit tapestry; the end borders are dovetailed. Narrow brocade borders appear at the ends, and small brocaded good-luck ornaments are scattered throughout the field. The lower end has the original twined heading cord; the upper end is finished with the original band of oblique interlacing.  The rug is sturdy and in good condition, and displays a pleasing loose, carefree approach to the designing.  $1200
