Garia was one of the first young children to begin weaving in Ramses Wissa Wassef's studio
in the 1950s. (See Tracking the Archetype, for a couple of her early
weavings.) She continued with that studio for about 40 years, becoming Egypt's most well
known tapestry artist. She now works independently.
