MARLA MALLETT: TEXTILES
Intertwined Trees
Rowhia Ali. Harrania, Egypt.
Wool Tapestry. 4' x 5'2"
Rowhia was one of the first young children in Ramses Wissa Wassef's group in the 1950s.
(See The Wissa Wassef Story.) Although she was
reportedly the most precocious of the children in that first group, Rowhia was married
very young and left the studio; then she resumed weaving in the 1990s, working
independently. Her work is individual and inventive.
