MARLA MALLETT: TEXTILES


Gaziantep/Maras Cuval
Southeastern Turkey.
Late 19th 20th century.
Wool and cotton.  28"x 39."
Reciprocal brocade and soumak, with card-woven (twined) straps.
The seam at the botton (top in the photo) of this cuval has been resewn so that the bold Memling gul design is all on the face.  The piece is in excellent condition, and could easily be stuffed for a large floor cushion, if desired.  The piece includes a faded fucsine dye that was used primarily between 1860 and 1900.   $325
