Central Asian Textiles:  Uzbek, Kyrghyz & Turkmen - 1

from the collection of Marla Mallett

HOME

In addition to their well-known knotted-pile rugs and bags, Central Asian Turkmen and non-Turkmen peoples made an interesting assortment of embroidered, brocaded, and woven items. Costumes  were ornamented lavishly. Below are a few unusual pieces from Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan and Krygyzstan.  New suzanis from Uzbekistan are featured.  A few pieces from Northern Afghanistan are included, although most southern Afghani pieces, such as Pashtun items, are posted on a separate page.
