Small Antique Kilims - 2

From the collection of Marla Mallett
Here, are a few more small-sized flatwoven rugs  made by Turkish, Yoruk, and Kurdish nomads in Anatolia. Some of these have mihrabs, and are often called namazlik, meaning "for prayer." Rather than being used on the ground, they were often hung in village houses on the wall indicating the direction of Mecca, simulating the mihrab in a mosque kebla wall.  These ethnographic antique Oriental tribal rugs are tapestry-woven, brocaded or they combine techniques.
