MARLA MALLETT Japanese Tomesode Taisho period, 1920s. Chirimen silk crepe with yuzen dyeing and embroidered accents. 51"across the shoulders; 59"long. Benibana-dyed upper lining. Both front and back are decorated on this tomesode, and the painting continues on the inside. With its longer than usual sleeves for the period and red lining, this formal kimono was most likely commissioned by a geisha.
