Japanese Child's Kimono
Late Edo period. First half, 19th century.

Silk satin with silk embroidery and gold couching. 40½"across the shoulders; 47"long.
Represented on this lovely small kimono are pines, bamboo, waves and cranes. This would have been made for the child of an important wealthy family, for a special occasion. It was a gift presented by the major of Sakai (Honshu), to the US base commander of the occupying forces around 1946.   $1200
