Japanese Matsuri Kimono
Meiji period, circa 1900.

Silk, silver and gold brocaded wedding kimono. 50"across the shoulders; 67"long. This uchikake-style kimono was probably made for theater or festival use. Mums, flower cart and temple landscape ornament this very luxurious kimono, made with the same weave as in the extravagant maru obis of the time. Unfortunately, the lovely luster of the silks and metallic brocading threads is not captured in these photos. One unusual feature:  a hand-drawn yuzen-dyed floral and fretwork design on both the lining and sleeve linings.  The piece is in mint condition.  $4200
