Japanese Kuro Tomesode
Taisho period, circa 1920.

Woman's formal kimono in chirimen silk with yuzen dyeing and accents of gold couching. Five paulownia crests. The fan and floral motif is black and white, with just small touches of color.  This patterning continues onto the lining, where it repeats the exterior design. The garment measures 50"across the shoulders, 61½"long.  This early classic kimono is in excellent condition.
Read about yuzen dyeing on the Design Techniques page--the decorating technique used for the most formal kimono.   $750
