MARLA MALLETT Japanese Kuro Tomesode Meiji period, 1880s. Chirimen silk crepe with yuzen dyeing. 51"across shoulders; 60½"long. Red silk benibana upper lining, with an extensively painted lower self lining. This garment has slightly longer sleeves than are usual for a tomesode of this time period, and was probably made for a special client or special occasion. It is in excellent condition. The back of this garment is plain, except for the usual three white crests.
