Japanese Hikizuri
Kyoto. Showa period, late 1920s or early 1930's.  Performing geisha's kimono of soft, sheer ro silk gauze with silk satin-stitch and gold and silver metallic embroidery. Lined also with white silk gauze. The motif is a phoenix, with paulownia leaves and blossoms. These garments were cut long, and furnished with a lightly padded hem. Such a garment was worn so that it draped on the floor and swirled gracefully. 51½"across shoulders; 71"long.  This kimono is in excellent condition.   $3200
