Japanese Hikizuri
Kyoto. Early Showa period, mid- to late 1930s.

Performing geisha's kimono of sheer ro silk gauze with silk satin-stitch embroidery along with gold and silver stenciled surihaku. Paulownia motif. These garments were cut long, and furnished with a lightly padded hem. Such a garment was worn so that it draped on the floor and swirled gracefully.  50½"across shoulders; 72½"long. Red ro silk gauze lining and lightly padded hem.  This dramatic kimono is in excellent condition.  $750
