MARLA MALLETT: TEXTILES

Japanese Kimono
Mid to late 1930s. Probably from Kyoto. Silk, painted warp design.
49½"across shoulders; 55½"long.
As with many early ikat garments, the upper lining is cotton; the lower lining is yellow silk. With this kimono, the design was applied to the warp threads before the fabric was woven to create the highly regarded ikat effect. Excellent condition.   $235
