Tribal Textiles of Southeast Asia - 3

from the collection of Marla Mallett

HOME

Here are more tribal weavings and embroideries from Thailand, Laos and Vietnam as well as a few from Burma. Many tribal peoples migrated into these areas from southwestern China, and their textiles are closely related to pieces on our Chinese Minority textile pages. There are also parallels with Indonesian craft traditions.

Contemporary silk brocades from Laos are posted separately.

To see the full textiles and close-up photos, click on the inventory numbers below. To go back to our first Indo-China page, click Here, or to the second Indo-China page, Here.  To see textile art from other parts of the world, go to our HOME page.  For a virtual visit with some of the people who made these textiles check out our  Snapshot Tour of Laos and Thailand.
