Vintage Japanese Haori & Juban - 1

From the collection of Marla Mallett

HOME

On this page we have posted a selection of the short jackets worn by Japanese women and so beloved by Americans.  Also we have included a few juban--the very easy-to-wear under-kimono. They both range from very dressy, to casual.  They include a variety of silk fabrics, and have been decorated with a wide range of techniques.  See Japanese Kimono Design Techniques for explanations. Assorted questions are addressed on Kimono Questions.

If you are interested in wearing vintage haori or juban, garments measuring 48" across the shoulders/arms fit sizes 4-6-8-10, and those measuring at least 50" across fit sizes 6-8-10-12-14.  The haori were worn open, and the lapels do not meet in the front. Women needing larger sizes often find Men's Haori perfect.

Click on the inventory numbers below to see full views of the garments.  Then check out our selections of Vintage Japanese Kimono, or  Japanese Obi.  For other textile art go to our HOME page.
