Ottoman Namazlik Syria.  1880-1890 Silk satin brocaded with silver.  36"x 61." This gorgeous textile, with its mihrab, has prayer-rug dimensions and format.  It has a sturdy quilted lining. It is a special textile, but was nearly impossible to photograph. Thus it is lit unnaturally from the side to better show the patterning in the silver brocading. Variations in the ground color in the photos  merely result from the luster of the silk. The piece is ivory, with a very faint rosy cast.
