Miao Jacket Leishan. Guizhou, China Silk embroidery on cotton.  Several embroidery techniques were used on this elaborately detailed jacket:  silk satin stitch, cross stitch, and chain stitch, along with appliquéd braid and folded silk triangles. There are also a couple of rows of backstitching on the collar that look at first glance like perfect machine stitching!  they are not. All of the work is very accomplished and the approximately 50-year-old garment is in excellent condition.
