Embroidered Miao Baby Carrier Guangxi, China Silk embroidery on cotton, with cotton appliqué.  20"x 29½." The center panels are silk satin stitch and appliquéd hand-made silk braid on a red twill fabric. The borders are appliquéd hand-made silk braid and couching on indigo-blue cotton, with motif fillings of silk seed stitch ("Forbidden Stitch").  The lower panel is cotton appliqué.  This baby carrier is around 80 years old and has been well used. It is faded, and has designing with a grace and softness that I could not resist.   $575 E-4475   Larger full view photo
